28 Mar - Pretty as a Picture - Silvermere

Oh My Oh My !!!

by Trevor Geddes

Well done to Bob Lester scoring 34pts (playing off 24 H/cap) on Winning the Day over Herb Miller on 33pts, with Dan Wheeler (Yes Him again) closely taking third place over Jason Mihell with 32pts each.

Also well done to Alan Fraser & Tariq Yusuf on picking up the Nearest the Pin prizes (that's all they did all day) and to those who had Birdies (John Nash Birdied the 1st and 2nd holes). Well done to all.

Silvermere proved to be a tough course to play with long Par 4’s & Gusty winds but overall we were pleased most enjoyed the course. As I had mentioned previously, probably the best 2 finishing holes we are likely to play this season, with 18 players failing to score points on the 18th hole, was it a wedge or a 9 iron? Maybe we should ask the Lady of the Lake for all of our balls back. It was a Joy watching from the Club House terrace. Apologies to the last group out as you were the only ones to get wet on the day.

Just to note Andrew Banting decided to join up with the children on the practise ground from the 7th Tee and was reluctant to retrieve his ball, electing to hit a provisional. But the guys playing with him managed to find his first, where he then showed the kids how to play a 2nd shot, which was actually quite funny. Well done Andrew.

One of our Guests went to Tee off from the 8th, hitting the Ladies Tee Block. His ball went about 50ft in the air then Out of Bounds. He then told us that it was stroke index 1, which brought tears to our eyes.

Thanks to all those who brought along guests. I hope they enjoyed the day & hope to see them again soon.

Next Venue Blacknest

The course is open, despite rumours of closure.

We have 4 guests to enter their 3rd & final cards at Blacknest, who are then eligible to become Members and receive their Handicap Certificates. Good Luck.

Update on Majors & League Tables

Order Of Merit - Major (Club Champion)
& Top Sixteen Knockout Competition - Major

It just goes to show how Silvermere demands respect with an average of only 25pts being scored. ...all change for the Top 16.

Those just outside of Qualifying need to post a good return at Blacknest as it is probably the easiest of the Final 3 games left to play, with Southwick Park in April (Captain's Day) & Old Thorns in June, shortly after them having their Club championship, so the rough will be rough & the greens like Glass.

Vets - Major

No Change at the Top, but lookout Herb, the field are closing in on you.

Chino can you confirm if Alan George is 50 or over as he would qualify hehehe.

Also anyone know how old Derek Hall is ?

Best 8 Games - Major

Silvermere took its toll on a lot of players, so it's all change for the Top 10. No Panic, still plenty of games to go. Dan Wheeler 9 pts clear of the field.

Medal Champion - Major

Again the average net score returned was 85 on a Par 70 which shows how long Silvermere is. All change at the Top with Dan Wheeler leading the Table yet again. Start looking over your shoulder Dan

SS Pairs Major

To be held at Selsdon Park in early September on the weekend away. Anyone wishing to go and who has not paid their deposit be quick as there is only ONE space left. See Mike Griffin.

Handicaps

No surprises guys a total of 22 players received shots back.
3 Players being cut due to Winning & scoring 4 Pointers.
17 Non Movers.
