27 June - Mila Hardware - Old Thorns

Hmmm,

Well the sun was out which was good unless you opted to walk then you really felt how hard it was. By far the toughest course we have played, even off the yellows, I think you will all agree. It was one thing getting to the green another reading it. How many greens read left to right, but actually were right to left?

I think everyone enjoyed the course, the scores dictated how difficult it was, with only 11 Non Movers, 19 players handicaps increased & surprisingly 10 players were cut.

I do have to mention in our group we were playing with the Club Captain of Old Thorns, Mr Bryn Farrier, who showed us round.

Mr Lee Edwards took 9 holes to get going. I was thinking about giving him lots of shots back onto his handicap as he was so bad for a 8 handicapper.

The first three groups flew round; unfortunately the forth group got a little lost. I looked out across the 18th green nearly an hour after finishing to find Rod Smith playing his 3rd or fourth into the water.

But to the left, with a big strut in his step was Richie Earp. I knew he was playing well and he just missed winning the day on count back.

Unlucky Richie. Always the bridesmaid never the bride.

Nearest the Pin on the 7th was won by Bob Chino who managed to sneak inside my shot after replacing his ball with a little help from his friends!!! (think he just wanted to win some balls because Dave Glover lost so many).

Nearest the Pin on the 16th was won by Tariq Yusuf. (Congrats on your new born baby Tariq. Hope Mother & baby are fine)

Birdies won by; Sam Fraser, Roger Marsland (straight into the hole from a bunker shot), Bob Chino, Bryn Farrier, Trev Geddes all with one Birdie, along with Andrew Hall having 2.

A big well done to all who played.

Well done to those that qualified for the last 16 draw of the Knockout Competition. You will find the draw in the latest league tables...

For those of you who have shots against your opponent, they are shown in brackets. Note: This year we're playing off FULL handicap difference.

Hope to see you all at Chichester.

  • Mike Griffin - wasn't able to play but drove the buggy round, tended pins, helped find balls and was generally a good egg. Also helped eat the pasties.
