Member Proposal and initial response
Bob Budd Arrival time of playing members and the moving from pre drawn playing groups.

All members who have notified the committee of their intention to play should arrive at or prior to the previously announced arrival time. In an endeavour to encourage this the following practice for drawing playing positions could be adopted. Also, this would stop the practice of members moving around from their drawn playing position.

  1. The selection of playing positions should be decided on the day.
  2. All those members playing on the day should arrive at the given time, to be decided by the committee e.g. 1 hour before 1st tee.
  3. The first four ball should be made up of those committee members that need to be in the club house before the members in order to receive score cards and prepare for prize giving.
  4. Those members present at the pre announced time hand in a golf ball -with their name on it- to the committee member making the draw. This ball will be returned following the draw.
  5. The draw will be made at a time decided by the committee, suggest no later than 40 mins prior to first tee time, draw to be recorded on a master sheet as a society record.
  6. The order of the foursomes will be as drawn by a committee member from a bag containing playing members golf balls.
  7. Arrivals after the start of the draw are not to be entered into the draw. These members will be allotted a place in the next available foursome following the draw.

Caveats.

  • A guest will be placed with the member introducing them to the society.
  • In the event that the members ball is selected last in a four ball this member and their guest will be placed in the next available group and a redraw for the last place in the four ball will take place.
  • In the event that there is an odd number or number of players that is not divisible by four the latter group/s should be played as a minimum threesome.

I'm sure if this is passed there will be some disquiet for the first couple of draws but I believe this will die down as the year progresses.

Forwarded to committee (5 Jan)

Thanks Bob, forwarded to committee. I will add your proposal to the web site so that all others have a chance to see it.

Mark Griffin,
Dave Dudman and
Dave Farrell
Can we please talk about the courses we are going to play.

Forwarded to committeed and replied (5 Jan)

Mark, this is already on the agenda under plans for 2009. I'm not sure how many Bob has already booked. There should be some flexibility.

Note:if you have any suggestions to bring then candidates must satisfy following criteria

Monthly (Sat am) comp

  • Allow societies on Sat/Sun am/pm
  • Allow 24-36 players
  • Under £30
  • Within 60 miles of Pompey
  • Have some buggies available
  • (nice to have) website to link to
  • other incentives

Captain's day

  • Allow between 27 and 36 holes
  • Possibly support format of Friday pm comp / overnight stay / Sat am comp
  • Nice food choice
  • "Goodies"
  • Somewhere new?

Weekend away

  • Similar to 2008
Rod Smith As I'm feeling guilty after cleaning up this year...

I propose that, should a member (who is a vet) win the club order of merit/ championship, such a member would then not be calculated in the vets standing at the end of the year, and the Vets order of merit then be awarded to the next highest placed member.

This would add an additional opportunity to share trophies around a bit.

Forwarded to committee (5 Jan)

Andy Banting I would like to propose that the subs are either paid for the year in January,

or if this is too expensive for some, 6 months paid in Jan and the balance paid end of June’s tournament.

This hopefully should stop all the hassle of back subs and help to pay, up front, for the deposits for the golf in the coming months.

Herb Miller Propose to re-use the www.anchorgolf.co.uk URL for a website which will allow members to contribute; ie a public blog, wiki and/or other content management system. This will cost nothing... as I have both names registered for two years (since 10 Jan 2008) and I will create the new space in my spare time.

Note:www.anchorgolf.com will still remain the "official" entry point.
